Description
Presentation at Des Moines Aging Consortium September 2 morning meeting. Update of key risk factors that have lead to agricultural related industry families having a 46% higher incidence of dementia than non-agricultural workers. I will cover the higher risk factors and co-morbidity issues that layer on each other to increase the risk of dementia, keys to mitigating these risks, the four components of a healthy mind, and stick around for the end where we share a 12-month plan pulled from my book, "Tending What Matters: A Financial Planner's Guide to Agricultural Families Navigating Dementia". The plan can be used as a field guide for families that receive a dementia diagnosis to organize their financial situation, address needs on the farm, and build a care plan and team to help manage the physical, financial, and emotional burden of caring for a loved one on the farm with Alzheimer's or other related dementias.
